Remedies For Tummy Aches In Kids

Tummy aches in kids can be occasional for some and common for others.  The chronic tummy ache needs further investigation for food sensitivities or intolerances. (See Food Allergies)  Many times it is as simple as gas bubbles or slight constipation. Most stomach upset can be soothed away quickly by the following simple steps.

Kids Tummy Trouble

Are your kids having tummy trouble?

Tummy Aches:

1.     Keep peppermint tea on hand.  This is an incredible antispasmodic. Peppermint alone or with other herbs like fennel or chamomile.  I make it with 2 drops of Stevia and give it warm or iced.  It works like a charm to ease discomfort and relax your child

2.     Probiotics are great to give when a tummy ache source is unknown. If it is gas, constipation or sluggish digestion, the friendly bacteria will help. This is a supplement every child needs to be on daily, for strong bowel health.

3.     If your child is constipated a tummy ache needs to be relieved by getting the bowels moving.  On these occasions I use Magnesium, Senna or Cascara Sagrada to produce a bowel movement.  These come in liquid, tea or capsule form.

4.     For infants and babies I use blackstrap molasses to relieve constipation.  It can be added to a bottle or to a bottle of breast milk.  Dose by age and weight.  This works like a charm!

5.     To prevent tummy aches I make sure my kids are getting enough fiber from things like shredded carrots, apples and plenty of fruits and vegetables.  This is the best medicine of all.  This tones the bowel and keeps things moving and pain free.
